LESSON 9 : BE (PAST SIMPLE)

1.    Kita membentuk be dari Past simple seperti ini:

POSITIF
Singular	I was You were He/She/It was
Plural	We/You/They were
NEGATIF	Full Form	Short Form
Singular	I was not You were not He/She/It was not	I wasn’t You weren’t He/She/It wasn’t
Plural	We/You/They were not	We/You/They weren’t
QUESTION
Singular	Was I Were you Was he/she/it	Right ? (Benar)
Plural	Were we/you/they	Right ? (Benar)

Beberapa contoh pemakaian be (was dan were):

I was in New York last week. (Saya ada di New York minggu yang lalu).

We were at home yasterday evening. (Kami ada di rumah kemarin malam).

They weren't late this morning. (Mereka tidak telat tadi pagi).

Was it a good film? (Apakah ini sebuah film yang bagus?)

2.    Lihatlah contoh-contoh dibawah ini bagaimana kita menggunakan be dalam past simple:

§  was/were + fakta tentang masa yang lalu:

John F. Kennedy was an American president.

(John F. Kennedy adalah seorang president Amerika).

Our first house was in the centre of town. (Rumah pertama kami ada di tengah kota).

A: Were your answers correct? (Apakah jawaban kalian benar?)

B: No, they were all wrong! (tidak, mereka semua salah!)

     Paula wasn’t at the party. (Paula tidak ada dipesta itu).

§  was/were + tempat dan waktu:

	+ Tempat	+ Waktu
We were	in Spain	in june
She wasn’t	at home	last night

George and Joanna weren’t in London at the weekend.

They were in Brighton.

(George dan Joanna tidak ada di London pada saat akhir pekan.

Mereka ada di Brighton).

Steve and Mary were here at six o’clock. (Steve dan Mary ada di sini pada pukul 6).

§  was/were + Kata sifat (eg. cold, tired):

It was cold yesterday.

They were tired after the journey.

The train was late again this morning.

A: Were you exams easy?

B: The first exams was easy, but the second one wasn’t.
